A thrilling tale seeing Commander Ernst Strubler and Lieutenant Dave Moore of the Royal Navy pitted against each other in a deadly game of wits in the unforgiven Atlantic, artist Jeff Bevan’s incredible cover first made its debut as issue number 957 in 1975.

A heroic tale following the exploits of dogfight veteran Mike Stallard during WWII, legendary artist Ian Kennedy illustrated the cover for “Battle Squadron”, originally published as issue number 569 released over fifty years ago.

Armed with only a tommy gun and two grenades, Sergeant Greg Fox sets out into the desert wastes to destroy a mysterious German tank – this is Desert Fox, a brilliant and bright cover depicting British heroics thousands of miles from home.

Arriving in the dead of night, a group of heavily armed Nazi paratroopers arrive with one mission – to assassinate one man who had talked too much and everyone who had listened to him. 

Penned by famous artist, Jordi Penalva, this cover illustration made a very special first appearance – as issue number 500!

9. Killer Crew

The artist who famously penned the cover illustration for Commando No. 1, Ken Barr, would three years later produce this work of art - “Killer Crew”. 

When Major Tod Raike and his “Raiders” went on the warpath in their high-speed armed jeeps, the best thing a Jerry could do was dig a quick hole in the sand and pull it in after him!

Charting a mission with terrible odds, Ian Kennedy’s cover illustration for “Strike by Night” first caught reader attention in 1974 as No. 861.

Penned in 1975 by Ian Kennedy, readers were thrilled by the tale of Captain Don Burke, a British undercover agent determined to thwart Nazi paratroopers being flown into British occupied territory.
